A friend of mine, Amiwell, asked me to create a graphical interface for SoX targeting AROS, now that I have some free time I will try to build it and here is a screenshot on my dev system which runs on Windows:
After reading a bit of SoX documentation I have to say that this software does an incredible amount of things, all related to audio files, and it has also a nice complex command line 😀
I’ve tried to group what SoX can do into a main menu that exposes the following operations:
- Format conversion
- Basic editing
- Effects processing
- Multi processor (a mode that I will try to implement combining all the available command line options)
- Live editor (I will try to make a sample editor, the only dubt I have is how well it will perform)
- Player
In the screenshot there is a first attempt to build the format conversion GUI, I know that it is quiet crude and ugly, but it is just a GUI prototype and it will be beautified later, when things will start to work.
The plan is to build the format converter on Windows and then compile it for AROS,
check if everything is working as expected, then proceed with the other modes.
The program will be compilated also for all platforms supported by Hollywood, for the GUI I’m using HGui, my personal implementation of a pure-Hollywood toolkit which will look the same on every supported system, without the need of additional libraries.
Finally, to try the AROS builds I’ve installed (on a VMWare virtual machine) the latest available distribution of IcAROS light, by Paolo Besser, and… wow… I’ve been away from AROS from several years but I’ve to say that it is very nice in the current stage!
That’s all for now 🙂
