Problemi al Server

Questa mattina ci sono stati dei problemi al server, e non è la prima volta.
Questa volta il downtime è dovuto ad un'operazione di manutenzione programmata.

We’ll be conducting network maintenance and hardware upgrade on the night of 9/21 and 9/22, between 8pm and midnight pacific time. This is internal maintenance, and as such it should not affect customer sites. However, there may be intermittent downtime, up to 30 minutes each, so please plan accordingly.

Please contact support with the details if you experience any issues during this time or to find out ahead of time if and which day you may be affected. – Andrea

Update Sept 22nd, 12:50am PST: This maintenance window is being extended to 2am PST.  We have resolved the issues causing downtime, but now need more time to complete the actual work.  We will update this post shortly with more info! -PatrickM


Update Sept 22nd, 12:10am PST: We apologize as this issue is still ongoing and is now affecting some MySQL connections. Our network team is hard at work resolving this issue and we will post when we have more details! -PatrickM

Update: Sept 21, 10:15pm PST: The downtime actually occurred on only one of the three mentioned rows (R), and the issue has been resolved. All sites should be back up but we will continue to post updates as maintenance continues. — JJ G
Update: Sept 21, 10:00pm PST: The scheduled maintenance is currently causing downtime for customers in the LAX data center, rows R, Q, and E. We’re working on this and will update this post when the issue is resolved or more information is available. – JJ G

5 minuti fa il sito non era raggiungibile, ora, ovviamente va  :mrgreen:

Una settimana fa ho ricevuto una mail da Vhosting in merito ad un problema ai loro server, e anche da parte loro non era la prima volta che mi segnalavano una cosa del genere...

Comunque il sito mi pare lento, quando scrivo un messaggio e premo invio ci pensa un 5-6 secondi prima di segnalarmi che tutto e` andato bene.

si è lento per 3 motivi:

- phpBB3 fa un gran numero di queries molto poco ottimizzate, e poi elabora i risultati in php (invece di usare query complesse e stored procedures, che renderebbe il tutto più efficiente)
- il server MySQL è condiviso da molti utenti
- il server Apache è condiviso da qualche centinaio di siti

La mia proposta di soluzione parte da:

- Switch su piattaforma Simple Machines Forum ( @all: stiamo già facendo il beta testing, a breve vi darò ulteriori informazioni )
- Switch su Virtual Private Server con database PostgreSQL (da fare l'anno prossimo)

Il primo switch dovrebbe alleggerire il carico del server attuale, ma non risolverà i problemi di MySQL, quindi avremo sempre qualche downtime ogni tanto. Il secondo switch dovrebbe risolvere il resto dei problemi.

Prossimamente daremo i dettagli per il passaggio di NSA a sistema diverso, preavviso che ci saranno dei problemi...ma i vantaggi saranno l`abbandono del php3bb.

Temo che i server siano insufficienti a servire tutti gli account in shared hosting che hanno.
Poi, ripeto, phpBB3 fa un fottilione di queries fatte male e una singola ricerca dei post non letti pesa quanto una decina di ricerche in un sito Wordpress, per intenderci.

Peccato che i forum in Python siano praticamente inesistenti. Roba paragonabile a vBullettin, per intenderci. :cry:
